This year is the start of a new decade, and also marks the 40th Birth Anniversary of our beloved Druk Gyalpo. In commemoration of this very special occasion, our February 2020 Calendar features a photograph of His Majesty The King with 82-year-old Kencho Tseten, from His Majesty’s recent visit to Dungkar, Lhuentse.
Dungkar is the ancestral home of Jigme Namgyel, the father of the First King of Bhutan. Important milestones have commenced with auspicious beginnings here. In 2007, as Bhutan prepared for a a profound change in governance, His Majesty graced the first mock elections in Bhutan held in Dungkar, with Kencho Tseten casting the very first vote.
We have come full circle, starting a new decade of the millennium and His Majesty’s 40th Birth Anniversary by looking back to 12 years of success as a democracy, and 14 years of His Majesty’s Reign, during which Bhutan has changed and grown exponentially. We also look forward to momentous endeavours before us, and an even brighter future. As a nation, we aspire to remain a shining example for the world.
On this special occasion, we offer our love and gratitude, and our pledge of loyalty and service for the country, to His Majesty The King, our guiding light and beacon of inspiration.
